Lisnagarvey Art Society paints a bright picture

Lisnagarvey Art Society enjoyed another successful exhibition held over the 6-12 May in the Island Arts Centre, Lisburn.


The exhibition presented a wide range or visual arts disciplines in an array of media, from watercolours, oils, acrylic and pastel on canvas, board and textile. Subjects represented were also diverse from portraiture, still life and abstract to local and international scenes. The exhibition was well attended and received throughout the week by the general public.

Joining Society members and the general public at the opening ceremony on Monday evening were the Right Worshipful The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh, Councillor Brian Bloomfield, MBE, and Councillor Tim Morrow, Chair of Leisure & Community Development, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. The Mayor adjudicated the artworks on behalf of the Society for the presentation of the Richard Spence Memorial Award. Bridget Carlin received the trophy as the Mayor’s choice of best painting at the exhibition in the Island Arts Centre. Bridget’s winning painting (above)  was called ‘Mount McKinley Alaska’. Bridget is pictured below with the Right Worshipful The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh, Councillor Brian Bloomfield, MBE, receiving the Richard Spence Memorial Award for Best Painting at the exhibition, attached.

In addition, all visitors at the opening ceremony submitted a nomination card for their favourite piece of artwork in the exhibition. The winner of The Visitor’s Choice Award was Margarita Johnston‘s ‘Who’s Looking at You?’, attached.

Lisnagarvey Art Society aims to encourage anyone interested in developing their drawing and painting skills, with workshops, studio nights and demonstrations and tuition by visiting professional artists such that members can explore a range of visual arts techniques. The Society runs an engaging programme from September to May, Tuesday evenings, 7.45 – 9.45pm, in the Island Arts Centre, which includes still life, portraiture and landscape painting in a variety of media. As well as social events and gallery visits there is an opportunity to show work in the Society’s exhibitions. New members, beginners and the experienced alike are always welcome, see our programme and the Lisnagarvey Art Society Facebook page for more information.
